Club History
We were oficially formed as a team called 'Britex FC' after our kit sponsors Britex,
when the Kimberly
Clark footballing friends and a few football loving
Frenchies doing there civil service in Vienna decided to form a
team to take part in
a 7 a-side summer league run by the United
Nations
in the summer of 2000. We performed very well in this league, finishing
top, although not
every game was played so we couldn't claim the title outright.
When the summer league was finished we started looking for more
players to add to the team so we could play a full season here.
Some teachers from the Vienna
International School joined along with other colleagues
and friends of team mates, and the word has spread so
quickly that we're now known by most of the ex-pat community as
THE Ex-Pat football team in Vienna. Walk into
any one of the international pubs here asking about a team to play
for, and they will more than
likely point you in our direction!
We played our first season 2000/2001 under the name "Britex
FC" and quickly gelled into a strong team. We were unlucky
not to win promotion from that division. We vowed not to succumb
to the same fate next season.
As we launched into the
next season, our team was beginning to consist of a diverse range
of nationalities. So of course there was only one logical step to
take, and that was to change our name from Britex FC to The Vienna
Internationals.
Since then we have consistently performed well in the DSG league
and as from season 2003/2004 we are also competing in the HFL league.
Organising this can be trying but somehow we always manage.
Our philosophy is simple: Fun. This team is made from likeminded
individuals who play to the best of their ability. Everybody helps
each other and nobody is left disappointed. And at the end
of each season each player gets confirmation of why he is playing
for
the
VI.
