THE ANSWER IS IN THE PHOTO!

As a spectator you would have always said that the goal should of stood, however when you see the photo taken by your Club Photographer, you have very little doubt that Ronan is standing onside as the ball is heading is way to tap it in the net.

It was a game of many mistakes, ones you would normally not expect from someone so experienced, but the referee was by far and away the biggest mistake of the night. His decision were at time unfathomable, one of which resulting in poor Joe O'Rourkes sending off for a "foul" on thin air. As referees go I cannot think of, in my 6 years of playing and watching matches in the DSG, one that has been close to being worse. Time to hang up your boots I think.

Anyway, onto the game.

Twas a game which had many highs and lows for both teams. A hard fought first half saw us heading for a fair and even score-line into 45mins, however it was not to be. With the last kick of the first half Nr. 9 from Neusimmering popped up to make it 2-1. On a cold night at Marswieser conceding on half-time is a massive blow to team moral. Leaving you thinking of all the missed and half chances of the first 45. This was however the furthest thing from the minds of the 11 players that re-emerged from the changing room at half-time. Whatever Leigh said in there really hit a note with everyone.

The second half started brightly for the VI's despite a yellow card for Joe O'Rourke. Halfway through the 2nd 45 it would be that man Joe O'Rourke again getting on the report card from the right reasons this time. Making the score-line a more realistic 2-2. Battling further the VI's pushed several times towards goal with a number of calamity decision to come from the referee (one of which only Leigh can tell the story). The least of all moments that were to come, the man of the moment (Joe) receiving a second yellow (and subsequent red) for a "challenge" that was not even something a referee would normally blow up for let alone show a card.

Sadly Joe had to leave to pitch to let the 10 VI's on the pitch to battle further. And that they did to the last. Around the 85th minute a chance presented itself to Striker Ronan Smith seemly putting the 10 men of Vienna Internationals ahead for the first time in the game and looking to have pulled off the impossible. Here is where the final act in a string of bad luck and bad decisions denied the VI's of what looked a certain winner, and 3pts.

A draw the end result (2-2) and many a angry VI's Fan. One of which actually telling the Referee to get his eyes tested the other demanding he retire put a smile on my face at the end of a really ludicrous 90mins from the games official.

Half season over sitting safely in 5th with a positive goals difference. Have a great Winter break everyone, and see you all back in the New year!!!
